Chicago Cosmetic Dermatology Treatments Dysport

Dysport™ is a botulinum toxin purified protein that can temporarily reduce moderate to severe frown lines and wrinkles. Dysport™ is often used in conjunction with hyaluronic acid fillers in order to reduce rhytides and add volume, therefore improving the aesthetics of the face. The product works by blocking nerve impulses, therefore reducing the movement of the particular muscles that can lead to dynamic and eventually resting lines. With less ability to move, the skin surface gradually smoothens out and the lines fade.

What is the visit like
Dysport™ is minimally invasive. After a proper evaluation, Dr Lewitt uses either ice or topical anesthetic to reduce pain. Then, very low doses are administered via injection directly into the muscles that cause the rhytides/wrinkles. There are many areas that can be treated including Frown Lines between the eyebrows (the glabella or "11's") and Crow's feet around the eyes. Other areas that can be treated include Bunny lines on the nose and the downward pull of the angles of the mouth. Botox can even reduce a "gummy" smile and wrinkles of the lower eyelids and forehead. Discomfort is minimal and brief. There may be irritation near the injection sites that can present as a small bruise or "mosquito-bite" appearance. There is no down time after the injections.

When will you see improvement
Individual results vary, however most people see results days to 2 weeks after

How long does it last
Again, individual results vary, but the product typically lasts 3 months before needing re-injection. As Dr Lewitt always consents his patients: "the biggest side effect is: YOU LIKE IT!"

How is Dysport™ different from Botox Cosmetic
Dysport™ is the same botulinum toxin protein, however the purification process/protein complexing is different. They will have the same overall effect. Producers of each formulation often highlight a number of factors to distinguish their product including but not limited to potency, onset of action, duration of action, diffusion, and differences in immunogenicity (becoming immune to a product). Dr Lewitt can review risks and benefits of each product prior to choosing which is more appropriate for a given patient. The cost of the two products is very comprable, however there may be different specials/rebate programs offered for a given product at a given time.
